Wanås Skulpturpark

The Wanås Foundation is located in the south of Sweden, surrounded by vast forests, fields and a small lake. The main site is located on a medieval estate and consists of a castle, a barn, and a number of other buildings. Around the centre is there is an interesting sculpture park where works by internationally acclaimed artists are exhibited.

Since 1987 the Wanås sculpture park has provided the setting for exhibitions based on artistic interventions in nature, and temporary exhibitions have also been held in the old barn that forms part of the centre. One hundred and fifty-five artists have exhibited their works at Wanås over the years, and the centre has built up a permanent collection of works that have gradually found their place in the forests and meadows surrounding the foundation.

Most of the works were created by Nordic and American artists. The fact that there are now 30 permanent works in the park gives some idea of the scope of the project, and the stature of the artists represented – Gloria Friedmann, Per Kirkeby, Antony Gormley, Dan Graham and Maya Lin, among many others – makes this even clearer.

In addition to enjoying the sculpture park, visitors can explore the castle and a permanent exhibition on its history, and visit the barn that serves as a venue for temporary exhibitions.

The centre also includes a café-restaurant.
