Breve tratado del paisaje by Alain Roger (edited by Javier Maderuelo). Madrid: Biblioteca Nueva, 2007. 211 pages with black-and-white illustrations. This publication belongs to the Landscape and Theory Collection.

This monograph, published under the direction of Javier Maderuelo, presents one of the best in-depth looks at the cultural view of landscape and the important role art has played in the invention of landscape. In nine highly readable chapters, Alain Roger describes how artists have approached nature, employing numerous references to a broad range of historical periods, civilisations, and specific ways in which artists have viewed and responded to landscape. The book leads readers to reflect on the death of landscape and the tangled ways in which it relates to the environment and policies applied in this area.

Available at INDOC, Art and Nature Documentation Centre.
