CDAN publishes exhibition catalogue for the Josep María Civit Collection |
The CDAN has published a catalogue documenting an exhibition of the Josep María Civit Collection. The exhibition – Private Life: Representations of Contemporary Tragedy and Banality – was the first to publicly present the collection in Spain. The catalogue is a contemporary art book in its own right, a 354-page publication that includes about 170 works by the artists that are most representative of the collection: Sol LeWitt, Ángela de la Cruz, Dan Flavin, Joao Onofre, Jannis Kounellis, Per Barclay, Liliana Porter and Candida Höffer. |

The unifying theme is a discourse that articulates the tragic and the banal as a duality, a ‘duel’ between aspects of our experience which, despite being opposites, complement each other and serve as the common thread linking the acquisitions made by the collector. This magnificent publication was designed by Josep María Civit himself, the founder of Taula de Disseny (1974) and a central figure in Spanish design. Civit has designed the identity of major Spanish corporations and was also responsible for creating the graphic image and identity of the Centro de Arte y Naturaleza. The 354-page catalogue includes illustrations of approximately 170 works by the artists that are most representative of the collection, combining photography, sculpture, painting and installation work. Readers will gain an insight into the thinking of celebrated artists such as Sol LeWitt, Ángela de la Cruz, Dan Flavin, Joao Onofre, Jannis Kounellis, Per Barclay, Liliana Porter and Candida Höffer. The catalogue includes an introductory essay by Menene Gras Balaguer and two essays on contemporary collecting by Anna María Guasch and Rafael Moneo. English translations of all texts are also included. More information Source: texts, CDAN; photographs taken from the catalogue. |
