Aim of the course Landscape and Territory is the third course in the Thinking Landscape series. Courses are organised by the CDAN each year in the month of June and directed by Javier Maderuelo, art critic and professor of landscape architecture at the University of Alcalá. The first course in the series, Landscape and Thought (2006), focused on analysing the ontological and conceptual aspects of landscape, and its impact on contemporary thought. Last year Landscape and Art examined how the relationship between the two concepts has evolved through a range of artistic disciplines up to the present. In 2008 invited speakers will include not only theorists and historians of art and landscape, but also geographers and creators of landscape, as well as artists who work in and with the landscape. As a complementary activity, those attending will have a chance to visit The Construction of Contemporary Landscape, a CDAN exhibition that will focus on ways of looking at the landscape from the perspective of contemporary art and landscape design. An afternoon will also be set aside for an organised visit to some of the artistic interventions in the landscape that make up the CDAN’s Art and Nature collection-route. The works included in the project were created by internationally acclaimed contemporary artists. Speakers The speakers taking part in this series of courses are recognised for the work they have done on landscape at the national and international level, within their specific areas of expertise. They are specialists in fields such as landscape design, art, geography, land-use planning, and town planning.
