Burning Ice: Art & Climate Change |
This book documents the work of artists and scientists who have collaborated on the Cape Farewell Project on the Arctic Ocean. Science and art converge to raise awareness of the problem of climate change. |
The expeditions took a multidisciplinary approach. Those taking part included artists, geographers, oceanographers, teachers, ecologists, writers, and a film crew who have borne witness to the entire project. The team conducted oceanographic experiments while also pursuing artistic projects inspired by this fragile ecosystem. The overall aim is to draw attention to the issue of global warming by analysing the impact of CO2 emissions on this part of the planet. The artworks covered by the book include ice sculptures, dance projects, writing and video art. The works created by artists and the scientific explanations offer a human-scale frame of reference for coming to grips with a problem that often seems far away and difficult to grasp.
