El mundo descrito: imagen, ciencia, documento [exhibition catalogue]. Texts coordinated and edited by Gonzalo Doval Sánchez. Madrid: Fundación ICO, 2008. 278 pages with colour illustrations. Texts in Spanish and English. El mundo descrito is the catalogue for an exhibition that was staged by Fundación ICO of Madrid and ran from 7 February to 4 May 2008. The exhibition, curated by Pablo Llorca, combined an interest in photography with a documentary and scientific orientation. The catalogue explores the relationship between science and images, and raises a question about how the works exhibited should be defined: are they simply documents or works of art? The seven chapters examine photography from its invention right up to the present day, covering the social, political, geographical, astronomical and various other dimensions of this activity.
