This exhibition catalogue devoted to Goethe is published by Madrid's Círculo de Bellas Artes. It presents a comprehensive retrospective of the landscape drawings executed by the great German writer. The seven sections into which the catalogue is divided cover the writer’s obsessions and key episodes in his life. The publication also includes some works from the early 19th century. The drawings are accompanied by commentary with information on the circumstances in which they were created, materials used, dates, reasons behind the work, and influences. Taken together these commentaries add up to a detailed biography of Goethe.
