Les Environnementales. Art and Nature Biennial

The fifth edition of the Contemporary Art Biennial ‘in’ and ‘with’ nature will be held from 13 May to 11 June 2008. The event is organised by TECOMAH, the environment school of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Over a two-month period, internationally renowned artists working in this field will use the techniques of Land Art to create new ephemeral works in a 120-ha park located in Jouy-en-Josas, 20 km from Paris.

The TECOMAH environment school, which is dependent on the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has been working with artists linked to the Land Art movement for a number of years in a spirit of research and experimentation. Through its creators, contemporary art becomes a valuable way of transmitting knowledge within the school. Recognition of the value of this approach has led to art being integrated in TECOMAH’s syllabuses and programmes.

This combining of art and learning has led the school to create a biennial event in which 10 internationally renowned artists are invited to create works in nature, with the collaboration of the school's students. The works are executed in the 120-ha Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry Park, located 20 km from the French capital in the commune of Jouy-en-Josas.

The fifth edition of the biennial will feature 10 distinguished artists: Nils-Udo, Gilles Bruni, Iain Baxter&, Serge Bottagisio & Agnès Decoux, Jean-Luc Brisson, Marie Denis, Michel François, Christine O’Loughlin, Isabelle Tournoud and Dimitri Xenakis.

Participants in previous editions have included acclaimed artists such as Dennis Oppenheim, Dominique Bailly, Paul-Armand Gette and Shigeko Hirakawa.
