Sculpture in Woodland
The sculpture project was set up to help create a greater awareness of the forest and of wood as an artistic and functional medium by commissioning artists to produce contemporary works of artistic excellence. Artists are selected by invitation and by open competition. Since 1999 three artists have been commissioned each year:
Sculpture in Woodland has two signed sculpture trails. Both walks start at the parking area, and each follows a different route. Visitors are recommended to wear comfortable footwear. The first walk is shorter (2.6 km), while the second covers approximately 6 km (longer if visitors continue to the waterfall). Sculpture in Woodland also runs workshops for children and projects in collaboration with schools. The aim is to bring children into contact with art and nature from an early age and offer them an opportunity to create their own artworks using natural materials collected in the forest.
