CDAN represented at EXPOZARAGOZA through the work of Lara Almarcegui

Just 15 days before the opening of the International Expo Zaragoza 2008, the Meandro de Ranillas area is almost completely ready to host an event that is sure to mark the future of the city of Zaragoza. The participants in EXPOARAGOZA 2008 are countries, Spain’s autonomous regions, international bodies and companies. The event will encompass over 140 pavilions.

The CDAN is supervising and organising the contribution by Lara Almarcegui, Un descampado en la Ribera del Ebro (Open Ground on the Banks of the Ebro).

The intellectual instrument that will provide context and give greater impact to the theme of the event – “Water and Sustainable Development” – is the Water Tribune, which will become a leading authority on this subject. This platform for reflection and debate will involve 32,000 participants, 280 hours of lectures, 2000 experts from the world's five continents, 221 lecturers from 47 countries, nine key documents to draw together conclusions and proposals, and 186 hours of audiovisual programming.

Water Park

The Meandro de Ranillas, which lies to the west of the park that runs along the banks of the Ebro River, is an area of transition between the city and the natural and agricultural spaces adjoining the Ebro. The Expo 2008 site occupies 25% of this area, and the remaining 75% has been used to create a park that will be the most important legacy of the event for the city of Zaragoza. Half of the 120-ha park belongs to the riverbank ecosystem and will be treated as a completely natural space.
The project was developed by the team of architects Iñaki Alday and Margarita Jover, together with landscape architect Cristine Dalnoky.

Plan to create artworks on the banks of the Ebro

The organisers of the International Expo Zaragoza 2008 have developed a plan of artistic interventions with the aim of encouraging creativity and contributing to the revitalisation of the public spaces at the Expo site, the Water Park, and along the urban stretch of the Ebro River.

The artists responsible for creating works are Javier Peñafiel, Federico Guzmán, Christopher Janney, Klaus Bury, Nicolás Camoisson y Marion Coudert, Isidro Ferrer y Batlle i Roig, Atelier Van Lieshout, Miguel Ángel Arrudi, Fernando Sinaga, Dan Graham, Miquel Navarro, Jeppe Hein, Jaume Plensa, Tony Cragg y Richard Deacon.

The CDAN is overseeing and organising the contribution by Lara Almarcegui, Un descampado en la Ribera del Ebro (Open Ground on the Banks of the Ebro).
