‘Approaches to Sculpture in the Landscape’ symposium in Leeds

Organised by the Sculpture Network in collaboration with the University of Leeds (UK), the symposium will be held in the British city from the 4th to the 7th of September 2008.

Lectures will be given by representatives of some of Europe's leading sculpture parks. The programme also includes a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, located near Leeds, which is one of the continent’s foremost sculpture parks.

Sculpture Network is a forum and working network that focuses on contemporary sculpture in Europe. The network is directed at sculptors, collectors and patrons of the arts, museums and art centres, galleries, the media, architects and all those interested in modern sculpture.

The organisation regularly stages international symposiums with the participation of leading professionals in its field of activity. Last year’s symposium in Barcelona focused on the theme of ‘Sculpture in the Street’; this year in Leeds the theme is ‘Approaches to Sculpture in the Landscape’, and the spotlight will be on sculpture parks.

Talks will be given by those responsible for some of the continent’s premier sculpture parks – the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Chillida-Leku Museum, Giuliano Gori Collection–Fattoria di celle, Foundation Sculpture at Schoenthal, and Artscape Nordland – and speakers will examine the interaction between contemporary art, nature and landscape.

The programme includes a visit to the nearby Yorkshire Sculpture Park, where participants will enjoy a guided visit to exhibitions featuring the work of Isamu Noguchi and Sophie Ryder.
