The Construction of the Contemporary Landscape |
The CDAN recently opened the exhibition The Construction of the Contemporary Landscape, which will run until September 28. Through the work of some key international artists, the exhibition catalogue provides an exceptional overview of the recovery of landscape in the arts in recent decades. |
In the course of over 200 pages, the catalogue looks at transformations in the relationship between art and landscape that have occurred in recent decades. Javier Maderuelo, one of the exhibition curators, offers an essay that clarifies the concept of landscape, which he examines in relation to the evolution of the arts in the postmodern period. After this interesting introduction in which numerous artists and fields – sculpture, painting, photography and landscape architecture – are referred to, the catalogue presents the works included in the exhibition. The featured pieces approach landscape from the perspective of all of these genres, with works by Isamu Noguchi, Robert Smithson, Richard Long, Jan Dibbets, Alberto Carneiro, David Nash, Ulrich Rückriem, Isidro Blasco, Axel Hütte, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Bleda & Rosa, Gerhard Richter, Jesús Mari Lazkano, Paolo Bürgi and Catherine Mosbach. María Luisa Martín de Argila, the second exhibition curator, offers a brief biography of each artist, providing readers with the background needed to contextualise their work in relation to the theme of the exhibition. Details: · The Construction of the Contemporary Landscape. Texts by Javier Maderuelo and María Luisa Martín de Argila.
