10th International Conference on Forests and Landscapes

In September 2009, the French city of Besançon – a candidate for status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – will host the 10th International Conference on Forests and Landscapes. The conference is being organised by the Groupe d’Histoire des Forêts Françaises (GHFF), and the deadline for submitting papers is 15 September 2008.

The Groupe d’Histoire des Forêts Françaises (GHFF) is a group of historians, sociologists, geographers and other specialised professionals that was formed in 1980. Every three years the GHFF organises an international conference on forests and landscapes.

Forests always occupy an essential place in the landscape. As a result they have gained a new value as part of our heritage and it is this idea that will be explored at next year's GHFF conference.

The conference, which will be held on 16-19 September 2009, will lead to a bilingual publication (French and English). Anyone interested in taking part in the conference may send a proposal to the organising committee prior to 15 September 2008. The proposed themes are:

  • Aesthetics and Values of Forest Landscapes
  • Forestry Practices and Uses of Forest Spaces
  • Protecting Forest Heritage
