CDAN to feature Magdalena Correa and Pedro Meyer this autumn

In the coming months, programming at the CDAN will spotlight photography. The CDAN will be one of the centres involved in presenting the innovative Heresies project created by artist Pedro Meyer, an exhibition that will run simultaneously in 100 museums worldwide thanks to the use of new technologies. Also, in The Disappearance: Crossing the Desert, from the Gobi to Atacama, Magdalena Correa examines the image of the territory through desert landscapes. The project, a coproduction of the CDAN and Casa Asia, will later travel to Madrid, New York, Santiago de Chile, São Paulo and Beijing.[+]

Schoenthal Monastery

In the heart of Switzerland, less than 50 km from Basel, there is a sculpture park situated on the land of the Schoenthal Monastery, which was founded in the 12th century. The sculpture park, created in 2000, features work by artists who have achieved international prominence. [+]

Publications

Wooden boulder : 1978-2003

This artist’s book tells the story of Wooden Boulder, a spherical sculpture created from the trunk of a fallen oak tree. In 1978 David Nash pushed the piece into a stream, and in 2003 it was finally washed out to sea and lost.  This limited-edition publication offers a complete documentary record of one of the most significant works of European land art.  [+]

This month we’re visiting the website of acclaimed sculptor Fernando Casás, the creator of a work entitled Árboles como arqueología (Trees as Archaeology) in the province of Huesca. [+]

Guided tours of the CDAN

The CDAN’s Education Department offers free guided group visits. Times for visits must be arranged in advance. Visits can be scheduled on weekends at three different times: Saturdays at 12 noon and 6pm, and Sundays at 12 noon. [+]

5th European Landscape Biennial

The European Landscape Biennial will be held in Barcelona from the 25th to the 27th of September. The fifth edition of the event – 'Storm and Stress' – is organised by the Professional Association of Architects of Catalonia (COAC), the Masters Programme in Landscape Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Association of Friends of UPC, and the Government of Catalonia’s Department of Territorial Policy.[+]

CDAN opens call for applications for María Sarrate research grant

The CDAN has published the call requirements for the María Sarrate grant, which is aimed at supporting and promoting research and study of contemporary art, with particular attention to the Beulas-Sarrate Collection held by the centre.

The deadline for submitting applications is 2:00 p.m. on 1 October 2008.

Proposed research work will have a duration of nine months, and the amount provided will be 6000 euros. [+]

 

Sonsbeek International Sculpture Exhibition

The 10th Sonsbeek International Sculpture Exhibition, entitled Grandeur, opened in Arnhem (the Netherlands) on the 13th of June.

The exhibition, which seeks to involve society in art, will run until the 21st of September, with shows at three city museums.

Museums and cultural institutions throughout the Netherlands are also contributing to Sonsbeek 2008 with their own projects.[+]

10th International Conference on Forests and Landscapes

In September 2009, the French city of Besançon – a candidate for status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – will host the 10th International Conference on Forests and Landscapes.

The conference is being organised by the Groupe d’Histoire des Forêts Françaises (GHFF), and the deadline for submitting papers is 15 September 2008. [+]

 

2nd competition for audiovisual works: Instantes del Paisaje 08

The CDAN has opened the second competition for audiovisual works in collaboration with Huesca’s Fundación Festival de Cine.

The aim of the competition, Instantes de Paisaje 08 (Landscape Moments 08), is to select a maximum of 10 projects with the aim of promoting the idea of landscape and audiovisual creation. The deadline for submitting entries is 2:00 p.m. on 13 October 2008.[+]
