Artists on the internet: Pedro Meyer

This month, as an exhibition of the work of Pedro Meyer opens at the CDAN, we take a look at the website of this acclaimed Mexican photographer.

Pedro Meyer, who was born in Madrid in 1935 and now resides in Mexico, is a pioneer and leading exponent of contemporary Mexican photography. He is the founder and president of the Mexican Photography Council and takes a keen interest in how new technologies can be used to process and disseminate images. Meyer is also the creator and director of ZoneZero, one of the most-visited photography sites on the web.

The website: www.pedromeyer.com

Pedro Meyer’s website is currently spotlighting the Heresies project, which will be presented simultaneously at dozens of museums and art centres worldwide, including the CDAN.

The links on the left side of the homepage lead to concise information about the project, galleries and curators. In addition to these three sections, the following areas merit special attention:

  • Database – This section allows visitors to register in a system that can be used to search for works by Pedro Meyer, a feature of particular interest to curators, art critics, researchers and artists.

  • Selection for museums – A database for museums, which can work with some of Pedro Meyer's photographs.

  • Educational programme – The Heresies project has provided art centres and museums with a series of educational activities related to the exhibition, including 10 lectures, 10 roundtables and 10 workshops.

  • Participating museums – A list of the museums and art centres that will simultaneously present the exhibition.

  • Look and tell – Allows museums and art centres to upload exhibition-related materials they have created. Also, anyone who has visited the exhibition can add their comments (after registering).

  • News – Provides updates on information generated in relation to the exhibition.

In addition to these links for the Heresies project, links on a horizontal menu lead to information on editorials published by Pedro Meyer, a special section with biographical details (CV), and contact details. There is also a link to the ZoneZero website.

Finally, there are also links to a Facebook page for the project and a special section for the press (registration required).
