Public interacts with Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville

The third edition of the  International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville got underway at the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art in Seville and the Palace of Charles V in Granada on October 2.

This edition of the event looks at the relationship between art, science, technology and architecture from a contemporary perspective, presenting 180 works by 150 artists. The biennial will run until 11 January 2009.

The biennial shows how contemporary art has evolved at the global level under the influence of the media, technology and science.

Works by over 150 invited artists revolve around themes of mobility, individualisation through technology, architecture and the environment.

Biacs3 is organised in four sections:

  • The first offers a retrospective view of the great masterpieces of media art, from Nam June Paik to Bill Viola.

  • The second section showcases the latest trends in media art, interactivity and public participation, Web art (online) and multiplayer media, and the role of the spectator as user.

  • The third section examines transformations in architecture – based on the use of computers and new programs (software) – that lead to new forms of social harmony.

  • The fourth section is the city of Seville itself. The exhibition extends beyond the walls of the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art (CAAC) to include other public spaces in the city, as well as the Palace of Charles V in Granada.
