Nature, art contemporain et société: le land art comme analyseur du social. Written by Jean-Paul Brun. Paris: L'Harmattan, 2005. This monograph is the first of a three-volume work of history. In the first of the book’s two chapters, the author examines the founding of the United States and the cultural identity that developed in the country, in which the notion of the wilderness plays a central role. The second chapter looks at the evolution of this mythic construct and how it has reappeared. The counterculture movements of the 1960s and 1970s, including land art, are a case in point. The role of nature and the landscape as social practice and a platform for creation are a significant feature of these movements. Available at INDOC, Documentation Centre about Art and Nature. |
