BilbaoJardín 2009: 2nd international urban garden competition opens

Following the success of the first edition of this event, held in 2007, the Bilbao City Council and Fundación Bilbao 700–III Millenium Fundazioa have opened an international competition by issuing a call for the submission of garden projects for the event, which will be inaugurated on 29 April 2009.

The organisers will select 27 creative projects developed by landscape gardeners, architects and other creators for installation in urban spaces around Bilbao. The deadline for submissions is 30 December 2008.

The aim of BilbaoJardín is to present 27 urban spaces that showcase a range of distinctive, personal approaches to modern gardening. The idea is to form a creative fabric or mesh that will allow locals and visitors alike to enjoy a stroll around the city and marvel at the exhibition of selected garden projects. Below we offer a summary of some of the competition rules (for the complete rules, follow the link below).

The competition rules place particular emphasis on developing the creativity of landscape gardeners, architects and other creators. Participants are free to choose any theme for their projects.

Preference will be given to projects involving creations based mainly on vegetation. The competition is open to any individuals or teams who wish to take part.

The 27 projects selected to take part in the final stage of the competition will be assigned spaces in the city and provided with €6,000 in funding by the organisers. Participants may be assisted on their projects by suppliers, artists or specialised professionals. Anyone providing help of this kind must be credited at the project site.

The project created by the winner of the competition will be maintained on a long-term basis in one of Bilbao’s parks or public gardens, and the individual or team responsible will receive a fee of €30,000 (taxes included).

Project proposals must be submitted by 30 December 2008 to:

Fundación Bilbao 700
Edificio del Ensanche
Plaza del Ensanche, 11, 1º
48009 – BILBAO
