Construction of work by Danish artist Per Kirkeby gets underway in Plan In November construction work started on the next piece to be added to the CDAN’s Art and Nature collection-route, which already includes works by some of the most acclaimed contemporary artists on the international scene. The artist selected to create the seventh addition to the route in the province of Huesca is Per Kirkeby of Denmark, who has created numerous works of public sculpture. The site is located in Plan, in the Aragonese Pyrenees, and the inauguration will take place in 2009.[+] |
Art and Nature Inhotim gardens One of Brazil's best contemporary art centres is located 60 km from Belo Horizonte. The size of the complex, which opened in 2004, is truly remarkable. It includes over 2,100 ha of parks, gardens and lakes – spaces open to artistic exploration of the landscape. [+] Publications Landscape and Territory [course proceedings] The CDAN has just published the proceedings for the third course in the ‘Thinking Landscape’ series. These specialised courses analyse the concept of landscape from the perspective of different disciplines. The 2008 course examined landscape in relation to the notion of territory. Artists on the Internet: This month we take a look at the website of Irish sculptor Michael Warren to find out more about his remarkable artistic career. As we reported in the last issue of this newsletter, a work by Warren entitled M-7 23 is currently on exhibit at the CDAN. [+]

Félix Romeo and Teresa Salcedo participate in A Glimpse Within On the November 21 the seventh showing of works within the framework of the project A Glimpse Within, curated by Chus Tudelilla, opened in exhibition room 2 of the CDAN. Under the title The Painted Novels, Félix Romeo presents a selection of works from the Beulas-Sarrate Collection, which can be seen until December 14. Teresa Salcedo will choose the works to be shown in the next stage of the project – They Chose to Live… Even Knowing It's Easier to Be Pretty – which will start on December 19. The works included in this stage will be exhibited until January 18. [+] |

BilbaoJardín 2009: 2nd international urban garden competition opens Following the success of the first edition of this event, held in 2007, the Bilbao City Council and Fundación Bilbao 700–III Millenium Fundazioa have opened an international competition by issuing a call for the submission of garden projects for the event, which will be inaugurated on 29 April 2009. The organisers will select 27 creative projects developed by landscape gardeners, architects and other creators for installation in urban spaces around Bilbao. The deadline for submissions is 30 December 2008. [+] |

European capital stages first contemporary art biennial The first edition of the Brussels Biennial, which opened on October 19, provides the public with a chance to experience the latest trends in contemporary visual art. The biennial – under the title 7 exhibitions, 70 artists – will run until January 4. The event represents a major step forward in the integration of the European capital in the international contemporary art scene. [+] |

CDAN’s educational activities engage visitors with contemporary art The CDAN’s Education Department plays a key role in helping visitors learn more about contemporary art. The programme addresses the needs of both the general public and visitors who require special attention, such as schools, and professional or other groups. Activities focus on nature, public space and artistic creation, and the methodology used is open and participatory. [+]

Symposium analyses Dieter Kienast’s conception of nature Under the title ‘Designing Nature – The Contemporary Character of Dieter Kienast\'s Work’, the Department of Architecture of the ETH in Zurich and the Institute of Landscape Architecture will hold a symposium on December 5 to mark the tenth anniversary of the death of leading Swiss landscape architect Dieter Kienast. The event will take place in Basel. Kienast’s main contribution to landscape architecture was his understanding the design-nature duality. [+] |
