46th IFLA World Congress call for submissions now open

The congress of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) will be held in Río de Janeiro from 21 to 23 October of 2009. The theme of this year’s congress will be “Green Infrastructure: High Performance Landscapes”. The deadline for submitting papers is 31 January 2009.

This year’s edition will focus on the sustainability of production processes and on promoting discussion and the exchange of information on projects for spaces and cities. The landscape architecture projects presented should contribute to environmental conservation and yield socioeconomic benefits for the community, in such a way that they play a role in enriching the aesthetic quality of affected spaces.

The programme, which includes international conferences and the presentation of over 70 papers, will facilitate an intensive exchange of information between landscape practitioners from around the world.

Presentation of papers

Academics, postgraduate students and practitioners working on projects and planning will have an opportunity to discuss, critique and demonstrate how the role of landscape (as part of urban and regional green infrastructure) can be reconsidered in relation to open spaces of various types and on different scales.

Papers must be related to green infrastructure projects and new functions of landscape. Within these categories, the themes discussed must raise issues regarding the integration of environmental, social and economical aspects of sustainability.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 31 January 2009.
