La Marrana Arteambientale

The La Marrana Association was set up in Milan in 1996 with the aim of contributing to the dissemination of contemporary art and opening up new perspectives. One year later, the founders of the association, Gianni and Grazia Bolongaro, opened the doors of their home, located 17 km from La Spezia and the sea, to enjoy the installations and sculptures commissioned specifically for the site.

The park is home to over 30 projects and the collection continues to grow. Each year an exhibition is held in which artists exhibit works created to fit in with the flora, climate and topography of the site. The park features installations by international creators like Hossein Golba, an artist of Iranian origin who works in the field of sound art. This example highlights the fact that the sculpture park includes works that fall outside the bounds of traditional sculpture. Other artists whose works are exhibited in the park include Jannis Kounellis, Kengiro Azuma and Jan Fabre.

PAALMA – Premio Artista + Architetto La Marrana Arteambientale

The creators of La Marrana decided to establish an international prize – PAALMA (Premio Artista + Architetto La Marrana Arteambientale) – to recognise public art. The purpose of the prize is to encourage public and private entities to support the creation of works that contribute to improving the quality of life in the places where we live.
