ARCO '09 opens a window on India

 
 

The 28th International Contemporary Art Fair will be held in Madrid from February 11 to 16. This year’s guest country will be India, and the event, organised by IFEMA, will feature 244 galleries from 31 countries. Exhibitors will showcase painting, sculpture, installations, photography, video work, new media art, drawing and engravings. The fair will be open to the public from Friday, February 13.

 
 

This year ARCO once again provides collectors and investors with an opportunity to discover the best artworks created in Spain and around the world. With India as the guest country, this year's edition will feature a particularly interesting selection of works, with many top galleries and artists taking part.

ARCO spaces

  • GENERAL PROGRAMME – A selection of international galleries made by the ARCO '09 Organising Committee.
  • ARCO 40 – A space for recently created contemporary art from Spain and other countries around the world.
  • SOLO PROJECTS – This section, which complements the general programme and the ARCO 40 area, features projects by a single artist, selected by a team of international curators chosen by ARCO.

  • EXPANDED BOX – ARCO presents a space that reflects the continuous expansion of artistic practices to embrace new formats and contexts.
  • PERFORMING ARCO – This section is provided for galleries that wish to present live art (performances) by visual artists. Performances will include proposals submitted by galleries, as well as those put forth by a team of internationally acclaimed curators, who will also be responsible for supervising the programme.
  • ARCO INSTITUTIONS – This ARCO space is designed to promote and raise awareness of public and private institutions that create collections of contemporary art and exhibition spaces in addition to offering strong support for contemporary creative activity.

·         PANORAMA: INDIA – This year's edition of ARCO will feature India as its guest country. The fair will play host to a selection of galleries and artists that will showcase the contemporary art scene in India.

·         ART MAGAZINES / DIGITAL MAGAZINES – ARCO presents a limited number of prestigious magazines from around the world that specialise in contemporary art, along with international publications on art and ideas.

·         BOOKSHOPS AND PUBLISHERS – This space features a number of prestigious publishers and bookshops from around the world that specialise in contemporary art.
