ARegistration now open for ‘Landscape and History’ course |
TThe CDAN recently opened the registration period for a specialised course entitled ‘Landscape and History’, which will run in Huesca from the 22nd to the 26th of June 2009. This will be the fourth of five courses focusing on the theme of landscape. This year's course will examine relationships between landscape and history, and will bring together in Huesca representatives of the different directions currently being pursued in the field of landscape history. |
The first course in the series focused on the ontological and conceptual aspects of landscape and its impact on contemporary thought (2006); in 2007 the course examined relationships between landscape and art; and for the third course – ‘Landscape and Territory’ – the CDAN invited not only theorists and historians of art and landscape, but also geographers and creators of landscape, as well as artists working in and with the landscape. This year the course will focus on the history and historiography of landscape, gardening, and the image of the city. The approach taken in this university-level course will be theoretical and critical. Lectures will be aimed at providing new input to contribute to landscape-related research projects being conducted around the world. The course will run for five consecutive days, in morning and afternoon sessions, with three lectures each day, a round table, and a number of complementary activities. The course will start with a reception at 9:30am on 22 June, where credentials and working documentation will be distributed to participants. Three sessions will be held each day, from 10am to 2pm, and from 5pm to 7pm. Scheduled activities will include a round table discussion, a guided visit to works created at various sites in the landscape of Huesca for the ‘Art and Nature’ project, and a guided tour of an exhibition by Danish artist Per Kirkeby, which will be inaugurated at the CDAN to mark the closing of this year's course. Students enrolled in first- or second-cycle studies at the University of Zaragoza or any other university with which the CDAN has entered into a collaboration agreement can obtain three credits from the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of Zaragoza. Students must sit an exam to obtain a mark for these credits. Primary and secondary school teachers will receive academic and administrative recognition from the Government of Aragon.
