ArtParis modern and contemporary art fair gets underway

From March 19 to 23, ArtParis will bring together over a hundred galleries in what for lovers of modern and contemporary art has been a not-to-be-missed event for the last 10 years. The art fair encompasses a wide range of media: painting, sculpture, design, photography, video and installations.

For the last three years ArtParis has been held at the Grand Palais in Paris. This year, the 11th edition of the event will be attended by a total of 115 galleries (32 more than last year) from 14 different countries. New galleries have been selected based on the quality and variety of their artistic choices. Together with returning participants they offer a broad panorama of artistic creation in different media in the 20th and 21st centuries. The majority of the galleries taking part are from Europe (78 from France, 7 from Italy, and Michel Soskine Inc. from Spain). There are also galleries from countries outside the continent, including the United States. A total of 800 artists will exhibit their works at this year's edition.

The fair will feature a special ArtParis Photography section, where 15 galleries specialising in this area will exhibit works.

Other exhibitions will also be running while the fair is on: Alexander Calder at the Pompidou Centre, and Oublier Rodin? La sculpture à Paris, 1905-1914 at the Musée d'Orsay (from March 10).

The prize for contemporary design given by the Daniel and Florence Guerlain Foundation will be presented on March 18. The artists who have been nominated for the prize are Frédérique Loutz, Jorge Queiroz and Sandra Vasquez de la Horra.
