An exhibition entitled Country of Landscapes, featuring the work of acclaimed French photographer Bernard Plossu, will open at the CDAN on April 4. The show chronicles a personal journey and conveys a sense of the way Plossu sees the landscape of Huesca during his travels there. A catalogue published to accompany Country of Landscapes features texts by writer Antonio Ansón, who acts as our guide to the voices of the landscape. The show will run at the CDAN until June 14. |

The Centro de Arte y Naturaleza presents an exhibition that looks at the landscape of Huesca through the images of French photographer Bernard Plossu. Over a two-year period Plossu visited different sites in the province of Huesca to create a photographic archive made up of 394 images, which have now become part of the CDAN’s collection. Collaboration between the CDAN and the Huesca Art School led to a workshop on landscape photography, conducted by the artist in April 2008. The workshop was held in Bara, in the Sierra de Guara Natural Park. The event was attended by 30 participants, mostly students and teachers at the Huesca Art School, along with artists from other parts of Spain. The first stage was devoted to fieldwork in Bara. In October the CDAN invited writer Antonio Ansón, poet Paco Grasa, photographers Pedro Avellaned, Rafael Navarro and Enrique Carbó, historian Paloma Castellanos, and the original workshop participants to a follow-up session aimed at analysing the work created. Those on hand shared their passion for photography, literature, discussion and walking, and took advantage of the opportunity to pool their knowledge. As well as works by Plossu, visitors to the exhibition can also see a selection of photos taken by the workshop participants, whose work is also presented in a catalogue. The CDAN has sought to bring together photography and poetry in a publication that gives voice to poet Paco Grasa’s vision of the same landscape explored by Plossu. The aim is to take an innovative approach by juxtaposing two artistic disciplines, with the landscape of the Alto Aragon region as the common backdrop. It is also hoped that the catalogue will help foster a renewed appreciation of the cultural value of this landscape. More information
