The 43rd edition of Art Cologne will open on April 22. Over 180 galleries from Germany and around the world will come together in the German city for the five-day event. The fair is committed to supporting new directions and young artists. The Art Cologne Prize 2009 will be awarded to Harald Falckenberg, one of the most important art collectors in Germany. Since 2007 a version of the German trade fair has also been held in Palma de Mallorca in the month of September. |

Art Cologne, an annual trade fair, is one of the most important held in Germany. Since it was founded in 1967, the Cologne International Art Fair has been recognised for the high quality of the work exhibited at the event. The fair covers art of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, as well as classical modern, post-war and contemporary art. Art Cologne will offer painting, sculpture, installations, video art and photography. The works exhibited are distributed on two floors. The first level will be dedicated to classical modern and post-war art, and the second level will be for galleries specialising in contemporary art. Twenty-three young artists from nine countries have been selected to exhibit their work at this year’s edition. The curator of the special show for 2009 is Janos Frecot. He has chosen vegetation in photography as the central theme of the exhibition, which will showcase work by 19th-century photographers interested in nature, parks, gardens, the destruction of nature, and the effects of urbanisation on landscape. Harald Falckenberg will receive the Art Cologne Prize 2009. With this prize, the Federal Association of German Galleries and Art Publishers will honour one of the most important art collectors in Germany. More information and contact
