Laumeier Sculpture Park: in the heart of the USA

Within the United States, the 42-ha Laumeier Sculpture Park in Saint Louis, Missouri is a leading site for contemporary sculpture in the landscape. Founded in the 1970s, the sculpture park now receives over 300,000 annual visits.

The park’s mission is to expand the context of contemporary sculpture beyond the traditional confines of a museum. The goal is to initiate a lifelong process of cultural awareness in order to enrich lives, and to inspire creative thinking by engaging people in positive experiences of sculpture and nature simultaneously.

Accredited by the American Association of Museums, Laumeier Sculpture Park is today an institution of international significance. The park showcases 75 sculptures by such high-profile artists as Michael Heizer, David Nash, Robert Morris, Sol Lewitt, Vito Acconci, Mary Miss, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Dan Graham and Donald Judd.

This cultural space offers an extensive educational programme, a library specialising in sculpture and landscape architecture, and special services for the disabled.
