Blickachsen 7 begins

The 7th edition of the Blickachsen contemporary sculpture biennial will open in the German town of Bad Homburg von der Höhe (near Frankfurt) on 17 May. Participants in previous editions of the biennial have included artists such as David Nash, Ulrich Rückriem, Per Kirkeby, Carl André, Eduardo Chillida and Ricardo Calero. The show will run until 4 October.

Blickachsen got underway in 1997 at the initiative of gallery owner Christian K. Scheffel, who was interested in setting up a contemporary sculpture biennial.

Since the second edition (in 1999) each show has been organised in collaboration with a major art centre on the international scene. Past partners have included the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the Beyeler Foundation, and the Kunsthalle Mannheim. This year the exhibition has been curated in association with Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, located in Michigan, USA.

Some of the 22 artists who will be participating in Blickachsen 7 are: Masayuki Koorida, Dennis Oppenheim, Beverly Pepper, Jaume Plensa and Zhan Wang.
