Plossu. The land of landscapes [exhibition catalogue]

The CDAN has published a catalogue to accompany an exhibition of work by photographer Bernard Plossu, which runs from 4 April to 14 June 2009. The 343-page catalogue showcases the photographs featured in the show, together with texts by writer Antonio Ansón, who, through a series of characters, gives voice to the landscapes immortalised by Plossu’s camera.

To create the works included in the exhibition being presented by the CDAN, Bernard Plossu, one of the most acclaimed photographers on the international art scene, spent two years exploring the landscape of the Sierras Exteriores in the province of Huesca.

Plossu’s black-and-white photographs capture the intimacy of the landscape and give us an insight into the experience of travelling through the land and looking at it from an aesthetic perspective. As the introduction to the catalogue points out, Plossu’s representation of the landscape is constructed through the repetition, at times almost obsessive, of a single subject seen from the same spot.

Writer Antonio Ansón accompanied Plossu on his travels through some of the landscapes captured in the photographs. These landscapes now have their own voice thanks to the characters created in the first pages of the catalogue.
