Congress of the Spanish Landscape Engineering Association

The 6th Congress of the Spanish Landscape Engineering Association, entitled ‘Bioengineering, Landscape and Territory’, will be held on 16–17 September at the Girona Convention Centre. The aim of the congress is to analyse the relationship between bioengineering techniques applied to land areas and landscape restoration.

Bioengineering techniques reflect the philosophy of thinking globally and acting locally. While proposed solutions are aimed at addressing specific problems like stabilisation or control of erosion, they must always be applied after studying the characteristics of the affected land.

The congress will feature speakers who have won acclaim in Spain and Europe. Participants will present projects that go beyond one-off solutions and use bioengineering and its underlying philosophy as a strategy for intervening in a particular space – whether a city, drainage basin, or a special project such as the organisation of Olympic Games.

Speakers will include Paolo Gallo and Guido Blanchard, who have done work on the staging of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics in high-mountain areas, and Ramón Vilalta, of the architectural practice RCR Arquitectos – the winner of a prize awarded by the Catalan Architects Association (COAC) and of the 2006 Rosa Barba Award – who will present the Pedra Tosca Park, an example of land restoration based on the principles of landscape architecture.
