International Seminar on Landscape and Education

The Landscape and Education Seminar will be held at the auditorium of Caixa Catalunya in Barcelona on 19-20 November. The aim of the meeting is to raise public awareness of landscape by leveraging the most reliable and promising tool for achieving long-term results: education.

In the first months of 2009 an educational project known as ‘City, Territory, Landscape’ was set in motion at secondary schools in Catalonia. The start-up of the new project provides an ideal opportunity to examine this and similar initiatives appearing all over Europe in both formal and informal education settings.

Though signatories to the European Landscape Convention have so far prioritised other measures and actions, the document puts particular emphasis on landscape training and education. It seems, however, that this situation is now beginning to change, making this an ideal time to hold an international seminar.

The opening presentation will be given by Joan Manel del Pozo, a member of the Governing Board of the Catalan Broadcasting Corporation. The rest of the presentations will be given over the course of two days within the framework of three main blocks:

  • Landscape, Education and Quality of Life.

  • Landscape in Schools.

  • Landscape Education and its Transfer to Society.
