Rummaging in the Rubbish

From 29 October to 23 January 2010, the exhibition hall of the Koldo Mitxelena Cultural Centre is presenting an exhibition entitled Rummaging in the Rubbish. The show, a coproduction of the Koldo Mitxelena Cultural Centre and the CDAN, features works created by nine artists using recycled waste materials. On 5 February 2010 the exhibition will move to the CDAN.

The chemical and physical processes that surround us (natural cycles, industrial processes, manufactured and consumer products, etc) have multiple consequences: overpopulation, overproduction, disruptions, imbalances, and – inevitably – waste. We do not know how to react to the unwanted by-products generated, and they often end up being swept under the rug, metaphorically or literally.

This show revolves around waste and recycling.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue that includes the works selected, an introduction by the curator, Seve Penelas, and another by Joan Nogué, professor of human geography at the University of Gerona and director of the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia.

Artists participating in the exhibition:

  • Baurama

  • Donna Conlon

  • Mark Dion

  • Regina José Galindo

  • Chus García‐Fraile

  • Chris Jordan

  • Vik Muniz

  • Ester Partegàs

  • Diet Wiegman
