SPORA: 2nd International Biennial of Ephemeral Art in Granada |
The 2nd International Biennial of Ephemeral Art will take place within the urban fabric of the city of Granada from 15 to 20 December. The event, which seeks to combine tradition and modernity, will link two disparate parts of the city: Sacromonte and the area where Science Park museums and the Cultural Memory Centre of Andalusia are located – key focal points created as places for interaction because of their social, cultural and territorial significance. |

The exhibition – a biannual event that brings contemporary and ephemeral art to points around the city of Granada – is the result of a project known as SPORA: Research, Creation and Dissemination, launched by the University of Granada’s Permanent Seminar on Art, Science and Technology and the Art and Society Association and Research Group. This year’s edition will feature eight projects selected from among proposals submitted in relation to two themes: ‘Art and Nature’ and ‘Art and New Technologies’. The work of two invited artists – Norwegian-Korean Hee Sook Lee-Niinioja and Granada’s Isidro López Aparicio – will also be shown. The biennial is structured in two main blocks: Art and Nature: This block will present multidisciplinary art projects of an ephemeral nature in the urban landscape. Projects are based on an ecological aesthetic and use metaphor to look at how we can improve the present and move towards a more just and sustainable energy model. Project proposals may involve installations, performance, land art, recycled art, sculpture, etc. Art and New Technologies: projects by creators and researchers engaged in contemporary art practices. This block will be structured in three sections: interactive art (net art, interactive spaces and virtual environments), video art (video creation, video installations and video dance) and sound art (sound space and sound sculpture).
