This publication contains papers presented at the symposium ‘Instantáneas de la Teoría de la Fotografía’ (Snapshots of the Theory of Photography), which was held in Tarragona in May 2009 within the framework of the photography event SCAN 09. The papers, the work of recognised specialists in the theory of photography, are presented in three thematic blocks. In the first, the authors explore the reality of photography theory in Spain and beyond its borders; the second block focuses on other disciplines that have looked at photography from a theoretical perspective; and the third contains papers on different ways of understanding photography in the present day.
