Malas Calles, an exhibition being offered by the Institut Valencià d’Art Modern (IVAM) until May 2010, takes a broad interdisciplinary look at the representation of urban public space over the 20th century. Studying our streets and the changes, events and structures associated with them is of vital importance to understand the life of cities, experiences, and human feelings. Through a range of media, including photography, video and drawing, the exhibition gradually shifts its focus from the 21st century back to the first decades of the 20th century. We are taken from the jubilation and confidence of the 1920s and 1930s to the lethargy and loss of faith that have prevailed in recent years.
