INDOC. Documentation Centre about Art and Nature

  Contemporary art and special education

This publication – an initiative of the educational services of the Centro de Arte y Naturaleza, La Panera of Lleida, and Es Baluard of Palma de Mallorca – presents the results and conclusions of a project that involved setting up an exchange network to link special education programmes and contemporary art centres.

From November 2008 to April 2009, the educational teams of the three centres participated in an exchange network that linked special education programmes and contemporary art centres. During this time, the heads of the educational services involved visited the participating centres to exchange experiences. The project facilitated contact with psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers, and led to the launch of a joint training programme to develop skills in this area, with particular emphasis on how to plan art centre visits to take into account the specific needs of each group, whether visitors suffer from intellectual disabilities, severe mental disorders, autism, Alzheimer's disease, or other conditions.

The book is intended to serve as a reference work for museums, art centres, and institutions and associations that want to offer activities in the area of special education.
